The Plitvice Lakes area was declared a national park on April 8, 1949. years. It is the largest, oldest and most visited Croatian national park. It represents a wooded mountain area with 16 lakes of different sizes, filled with crystal blue water. Lakes get water from numerous streams and streams and are interconnected by cascades and waterfalls. Sitting barriers, which have arisen over a period of ten thousand years, are one of the fundamental peculiarities of the Park. Special geographic position and specific climatic features contributed to the emergence of many natural phenomena and rich biological diversity. Sedinated sediments have been shaped from palustine to today in the cemeteries and depressions between the surrounding mountains of the Upper Lake in the south mainly consist of dolomites and lower lakes in the north of limestone rocks.
Spacious forest complexes, exceptional natural beauty of lakes and waterfalls, rich flora and fauna, mountain air, forest paths and wooden junctions and much more are part of the unmistakable universe, which UNESCO proclaimed the world’s natural heritage in 1979, among the first in the world. The park is divided into the narrow and broader zone according to the degree of protection.
In the Plitvice Lakes there is also the source of the Korana river that is fed with water from the lake. The climate in the national park is moderate mountain.
